New Year New You!

Between you and me (and everyone else reading this) I hate that famous mantra. It might be a new year, but new me? It’s not like I’m going to wake up tomorrow and be traded with someone else’s body like some overdone Hollywood, comedy film. Why do we wait until some magical day on the turning of a paper calendar to try to better ourselves anyway?

By most standards, I haven’t lived a long life; But I can admit that I have lived a lot of life in the 35 years that I’ve been on this earth. There’s been some pretty beautiful peaks, but also some really rugged and mountainous terrains. Those valley’s left a few scars on my soul, but that’s ok. Those scars tell a story of where I was and how far I’ve come. I can tell you though, my wounds didn’t heal overnight. My set backs hit me at the worst of possible times but when I kept my eyes facing forward instead of behind, that’s when I was able to climb out of my distress.

Goals aren’t a bad thing. Having a clear mindset of what you’re working towards and how you want to make it happen is one of the best things we can do for ourselves, but listen, sometimes we fall down on that trek back up the mountain to the peek. Sometimes its a slope that slides us right back down into our valley. As long as you’re looking up, not down, not around, and not giving in… you can make it back up that mountain.

Don’t put too much desire on the final achievement of what perfect should look like: a perfect relationship, being a perfect mother, having the nicest apartment or home or so much money in the bank. If we’re always upset because we don’t have exactly what we’re always working towards, how will we ever enjoy the process of who we are becoming

It’s a new year. Sister, the facts are: you can be a new you, but it sure isn’t going to happen overnight. The growth you want to see is in the tiny little achievements that you make every single day. Make a pact with yourself to do something small each day that will get you closer to the woman you want to be one day. Do you want to have a career? Google that job near you. Write down what that job pays, what certificate it requires, and where you can study. The next day, make a phone call and tell us about your dream. We want to cheer you on. Register for one class to get you on the ball. Take it one day, one step, one moment at a time. Each day, give yourself a small task to get you on the road to your dreams.

It’s easy to talk about. It’s not easy to do it. But I’m here to tell you, it possible. It’s worth it. And so are you.

So, did you climb a few steps on your mountain today? Great job! Did you stumble and land back down in familiar territory where you don’t want to be? It’s ok. Don’t dwell there. Get a good night’s rest a good meal and start over tomorrow.

It’s a new year. And we want you to know how much we believe in YOU.
